About this listen

Living, loving, and dating in Los Angeles, or anywhere for that matter, has never been more complicated. Ella is no different than any other woman out there, falling for the wrong ones, ruining the good ones, and still just trying to keep her head above water when it comes to the world around her. But navigating the evolution of love in the 21st century can easily become a full-time job.

In the debut episode of Ella & LA, the concept of virtual dating rules becomes Ella’s new obsession, and not in a good way. Her three best friends have survived up to that point, but the complications within the world of dating can get pretty brutal, especially when the ever-scrolling ones and zeros are dictating expectations before women ever manage to leave the house, much less pursue a long-term relationship.

Ella isn’t about to just give in to the expansion of one of humanity’s most primal instincts, flashing her every move across social media just to find a mate. After all, it worked in the 20s just fine. Why fix something that ain’t broke? But when the idea is put into Ella’s mind, it becomes impossible to shake.

Will Ella’s desperation to keep the guy, force her to drop her opinion on the internet and pick up a selfie stick? Or will sticking to her guns cost her everything but her pride?

I loved this story. Stephanie Kline meets Sex in the City. 4 women, 4 different stories and 4 seconds. What a fabulous way to have the way for the future books. What I liked so much about this book is, that each woman is victorious and does not have to rely on a man in life. so good.

This is an entertaining book that shows all the twists and turns that happen within modern dating. It’s an easy to listen book which will keep you amused and help pass a few hours. I’d say perfect for lying on the beach or a long car journey.
The reader was good and easy to understand but I think I’d of preferred a few more changes of voice/ expression when changing characters.
I will definitely be looking out for more books by this author.

Fun, Intriguing and a definite look at modern life.

A book about a woman as a main character, narrated by a man. I don’t think that’s the best choice. For me, the male narration stood in the way of me relating with Ella. This male narrator had a careless style. He read almost nonchalantly. That fitted the style of the book fine, but it did mean that all the voices of all the characters sounded almost disinterested. Like, whatever. And the narrator also pronounced the words too fast. Not the sentences, but the words themselves. Emilio sounded like Emilia so I was confused for a while.

Like I said, I didn’t connect with Ella. Which was strange to me, because I did the whole dating thing too, years and years ago. I thought I’d bond with her over that. But that wasn’t the case. It didn’t help that there were multiple POVs. Too many in such a short book, the characters just weren’t developed enough. I did like Lily, and I did find myself bonding with Zoe. So the multiple POVs had a downside, but also an upside, it lifted the story.

But all in all, it just didn’t grab me. I like a bit more humor, and a bit more focus. And a bit less sarcasm about love?

Now for some facts:
Heat level: steamy.
There is cursing.

Not for me

Absolutely loved listening to this! Great chick lit about a group of friends, their dating stories and the effects of social media. Was a light hearted, fun read. I was surprised that the narrator was male but he was really good! Was disappointed that the story wasn’t longer. Will look out for more by this author 👍🏻

Loved this girly listen!
