About this listen

How far will a twisted mind go in the name of vengeance?

Jimmy Harper was a successful vintage car dealer with a passion for perfection. When he is found burned alive inside his prized Aston Martin DB5, it’s clear this was no accident—and no ordinary act of violence.

A double-headed coin placed in his mouth points to something calculated, ritualistic, and deeply personal. As DI Joseph Stone and DC Megan Anderson begin their investigation, they uncover a disturbing pattern: businesses destroyed by fire, lives reduced to ash, and a killer driven by more than rage.

Drawn into the fractured psyche of an arsonist obsessed with vengeance, the detectives find themselves walking a dangerous line. Loyalties blur, professional boundaries strain, and the heat begins to rise as each new revelation brings them closer to a far greater threat lurking in the shadows.

With the body count climbing and time running out, Joseph and Megan must stay one step ahead of a killer who thrives on destruction—before another life is claimed by the flames.

Narrated by Patrick FitzSymons, Embers of Summer is a dark, psychologically driven British crime thriller set in Oxford. Intense, unsettling, and fuelled by quiet menace, it is the gripping third instalment in the DI Joseph Stone series.

Perfect for listeners who enjoy morally complex investigations, slow-building dread, and villains shaped by obsession and fire.
