Summary

"Galit Atlas deftly shows why the hurts and stuckness that can plague us can be faced and, yes, dissolved. Contemporary psychoanalysis at its best." - Susie Orbach, author of Fat Is a Feminist Issue

Past family trauma can keep us unconsciously connected to the past. It shapes our lives in ways we don't always recognise, and can keep us from living to our full potential.

In this transformative book, award-winning psychoanalyst Dr Galit Atlas draws back the veil on the legacy of intergenerational trauma. Entwining the stories of her patients, her own stories, and decades of research, she shows how the people we love and those who raised us live inside us - how we take on their emotional pain - and she helps us identify the links between our life struggles and the 'emotional inheritance' we all carry. For it is only by following the traces those ghosts leave that we can truly change our destiny.©2022 Galit Atlas (P)2022 Octopus Publishing Group

This was a fascinating listen. The case studies are so helpful in teaching how our inheritance plays out. In listening, I experienced a resonance that at times seemed beyond words. I have ordered the hardback version, too. The book is a must for all counsellors and therapists.

I really enjoyed hearing the different case studies and the insights into how previous trauma can be transmitted

An excellent book explaining how trauma affects the following generations

Whilst an excellent writer (and seemingly, a very skilled therapist), the author is a surprisingly poor narrator. Her reading is stilted, staccato, and altogether peculiar.

I listened at 1.3X speed which improved my listening experience but had the material been less engaging and powerful I would have struggled to remain engaged with this title.

I’m sensitive to speech patterns, so don’t let my experience dissuade you from listening if you’re drawn to the content - I believe it’s essential and invaluable listening on our journeys of self-awareness and self-understanding. Overall, and speaking as a psychotherapist myself, I highly recommend this book

Lucid, powerful, and profound

I liked the way it gives different perspectives on emotional subconscious heritage and how we are often unaware
It proves how often when trying to take away suffering from our children we give it to them instead.
Hits me hard both as a child and as an adult
No self loathing from the author that shares her own suffering with honesty which is really refreshing in these not too honest times

Very helpful for me
