About this listen

From holy cup comes holy light;

The faithful hands sets world aright.

And in the Seven Martyrs’ sight,

Mere man shall end this endless night.

Gabriel de León has lost his family, his faith, and his last hope of ending the endless night – the Holy Grail, Dior. With no desire left but vengeance, he and a band of loyal brothers journey into the war-torn heart of the Augustin Empire to claim the life of the Forever King.

Unbeknownst to the Last Silversaint, the Grail still lives – speeding towards Augustin’s besieged capital in the frail hope of ending Daysdeath forever. But deadly treachery awaits within the halls of power, and the Forever King’s legions march ever closer. Gabriel and Dior will be drawn into a final battle that will shape the very fate of the Empire, but as the sun sets for what may be the last time, there will be no-one left for them to trust.

Not even each other.

From Sunday Times bestselling author of The Nevernight Chronicle, Jay Kristoff, comes the epic conclusion to the #1 internationally bestselling series.

Where do I begin with a book like this? The entire trilogy has been utterly superb, without a doubt the best 93 hours and 24 minutes of listening I’ve ever experienced.
Before starting this final instalment, I reread the first two books as I’d forgotten some details, and I’m glad I did. The characters are brilliantly written and the narration is exceptional. Damian Lynch delivers an incredible performance, and while it took time to adjust to Shakira Shute’s voice, she ultimately did a great job as well.
The conclusion in Empire of the Dawn is masterfully written. I was left clapping and grinning like an idiot, I genuinely didn’t see it coming. Huge credit to Jay Kristoff for delivering one of the best pieces of writing I’ve encountered in a long time.

An outstanding trilogy

I have thoroughly enjoyed listening Gabriel and Celene's tale about Day's Death, and am happy with the way it concluded. It was a bit slow going to begin with in this book, but that can be forgiven for the pace from the middle onwards and especially towards the ending. And what an ending!

My only criticism is, towards the end especially, the main narrator sometimes forgot which character he was voicing and that was a bit jarring - listening to him voice Celene only for him to default back to Gabriel mid sentence. It didn't happen a lot, thankfully, but when it did it was very noticeable.

I'd recommend this trilogy. It was a wild ride, and I'm happy with the conclusion. I will admit I hope that's not entirely the end and we get a few side stories and novellas!

Thrilling conclusion to a brilliant saga.

To maintain the same quality throughout the series….Jay is a true master storyteller. I’ve been gripped from the first page of the first book. Can’t help feeling a bit lost now that I need to find another read. Thank-you Jay Kristoff

Epic in every way

If you've gotten to book three you can obviously overlook the teenage/early 00s tryhard edginess and puerile humour (I managed to warm to it and actually enjoy it). I was really enjoying every development and every tragic turn and switch until I started to see the end coming and hoping I was wrong. Unfortunately it has a significant and indelicate use of a particular narrative device to the point it didn't feel like a clever and well planned revelation through deception and instead felt like a deus ex machina loop hole. It's a shame as I was really enjoying how it was living up to my brutal and tragic expectations until it just flopped and ended up really nice, which is the opposite of what I'm here for. it went from grimdark to care bares. 90% of the book is top teir and on par with the first two books. but for me it didn't stick the landing.

Was great and getting better and better until it wasn't
