About this listen

Cam Langley, a sharp-witted codebreaker at Bletchley Park, dresses like a man and makes no secret of who she is. Gloria Edwards, eager to escape her domineering father, joins the war effort and is quickly drawn into Cam's orbit.

Cam feels an immediate attraction, while Gloria is caught off guard, having only ever been with men. As they work closely together, their connection deepens, but a spy within Bletchley threatens to destroy everything.

Can they survive the chaos of war, or will secrets tear them apart?

Another excellent story told during WWII, with great narration. Bletchley Park has always fascinated me, partly because our father worked for GCHQ in Cheltenham & some of his early work was helping decrypt messages (albeit a different era & country than this one). But he knew so much of The Park history, & also always made sure to acknowledge the work women did in such roles. And instantly I could tell, there has been a lot of research into this by the author that reflects well in terms of some of what went on.
Cam and Gloria were characters I instantly fell in love with & I also loved how their relationship develops.
A solid 5 out of 5 stars for me, in all aspects of this audio book.

Another excellent story

Another gripping read from E V Bancroft. She is so good at capturing the era that her books are set in, I always enjoy reading the more obscure and old fashioned words that she puts into her work to make you really feel what it was like to live in the period she is depicting. She never forgets to include, or glosses over, the facts of what it was like to live during the war, with rationing on food, coal and fabrics etc., she is just so good at the details. This is an endearing story about a group of people working in Bletchley Park doing serious codebreaking work, while also navigating what it would have been like to be a homosexual in this environment. You can tell the amount of research that has gone into this to make it as authentic as it could possibly be, while at the same time bringing a host of new characters to life. Juanita does an amazing job of the narration bringing all the characters to life and it was lovely to hear her bring Bea back to us like an old friend from Warm pearls and Paper Cranes.

This is a delightful beautiful romance that blossoms through the war days. Keeping secrets about the war and love is not easy, but being together is everything. This is such a sweet journey of overcoming convention and the emotional impact of finding true love in a world that does not understand. 💖
Excellent narration, absolutely fantastic performance. 🎶
