About this listen

You never really know the person you've married...until it's too late.

Pregnant heiress Carmen Winters goes into shock when she comes home to find her husband hanging from a chandelier. Her immediate thoughts concern whether she should snap a photo for social media.

As she gathers her wits, she begins to question the events surrounding her husband's death, and suspect that her estranged sister was the last person to see him alive. Carmen's quest to understand the suicide is complicated by her difficult pregnancy and aggressive advances from her late husband's best friend.

She is determined to soldier through the tragedy, but soon discovers information about her husband that makes her realize her entire life was a lie....

Perhaps the story might hold the attention of some but not mine. Far worse, though, is Jessica Helmke's awful narration. It's normal to end a sentence on a lower tone than the rest of it, but Hemke drops a tone at the end of almost every clause and subclause, other than questions. Monotonous, irritating, and unnecessary. But some people might ignore or not notice that.

The end is not the end, which came as a surprise. No, indeed, the story continues in a second book.
