I'm not a walker but having seen a few of Peter's TV shows I downloaded this out of interest on what might be his next project. Peter's way of narration filled my mind with the beauty of the scenery, and nature he was describing during his pilgrimage. I found I'd walked at least part of his journey during my much younger years (around Coombe Martin, Devon) and it brought back lovely memories of my childhood. Peter's voice is so soothing and his cadence is spot on.

At first, I have to admit I felt a little misled by the description of this audiobook. I had been expecting a practical hill-walking guide, so it was disappointing to realise that it’s not a guide in the traditional sense at all. Instead, it’s a reflective collection of Peter’s thoughts and personal experiences, offering very little in the way of direct insight into the hills and mountains themselves.
I even considered returning it, feeling it wasn’t what I had signed up for—but I’m glad I chose to persevere. Once I adjusted my expectations, I began to appreciate it for what it truly is. Peter leads the listener on a gentle, contemplative journey, delivered with a calm and soothing narration that’s easy to settle into.
While it may not serve as a practical guide, it becomes an enjoyable and quietly rewarding listen in its own right—best approached as a reflective companion piece rather than an instructional handbook.
