A new recording of Ray Bradbury’s timeless classic Fahrenheit 451 narrated by Penn Badgley!

Nearly seventy years after its original publication, Ray Bradbury’s internationally acclaimed novel Fahrenheit 451 stands as a classic of world literature set in a bleak, dystopian future. Today its message has grown more relevant than ever before.

Guy Montag is a fireman. His job is to destroy the most illegal of commodities, the printed book, along with the houses in which they are hidden. Montag never questions the destruction and ruin his actions produce, returning each day to his bland life and wife, Mildred, who spends all day with her television “family.” But when he meets an eccentric young neighbor, Clarisse, who introduces him to a past where people didn’t live in fear and to a present where one sees the world through the ideas in books instead of the mindless chatter of television, Montag begins to question everything he has ever known.

Critic reviews

"Like many sci-fi authors, Bradbury predicted many of today’s less admirable achievements, such as earbuds and huge TVs. So not surprisingly, this 1953 title is timeless. Penn Badgley, pleasant-voiced and convincing, is an outstanding narrator. His tone resonates with personality, and his subtle character shifts are effective, especially as he portrays this novel’s antihero, a fireman whose job is to burn books. Badgley’s pace is quick yet easy to follow. Even longer monologues are clearly phrased. He can offer a warm observation one minute and turn into a cold commentator the next, skillfully making Bradbury’s message accessible. At one point, exhorting the protagonist to actively embrace life, one character says, “Stuff your eyes with wonder.” This audiobook invites you to do the same with your ears."

Gripping from beginning to end. Loved the fact that it was written 75 years ago and is still technologically, socially and politically relevant. Bradbury’s style is engaging and edifying.
Loved every minute of it.

Excellent Story and Narration

This book is terrible. I had to force myself through it, and usually audiobooks help. I ended up reading while listening at the same time just to get through it. The narration of this audiobook has to be one of the worst I’ve ever heard.

The book is already boring and difficult to read because nothing interesting ever happens, and somehow Penn Badgley managed to make it even worse. It’s the exact same tone of voice the entire time: flat, emotionless, and painfully monotonous. He barely changes his delivery when different characters are speaking, so everything blends together into one long, sleepy, robotic monologue. My god.

If you’re thinking about buying this, save yourself the disappointment. Life’s too short to listen to Penn Badgley’s narration.

Yawn - Don’t buy this one!

I first read this as a teenager and today have passed the book on to my own teenager. This led to my re-reading it, and I was astounded at how relevant and incisive Bradbury remains to this day. A true classic that tells us what it means to be human, and what we should aspire to.

so much wisdom and foresight. Timeless

This book is art. This book is truth. This book is a masterpiece. This book is read by the guy from 'You' and I could bathe in his voice all day.
Please jump straight into the fire and listen to it.

Why did I wait so long to listen to this?
