About this listen

THE SUNDAY TIMES Music Book of the Year

Faith, Hope and Carnage is a meditation on faith, art, music, freedom, grief and love.

Created from more than forty hours of intimate conversations with the journalist Seán O’Hagan, it is a profoundly thoughtful exploration, in Cave’s own words, of what really drives his life and creativity. The audiobook has been recorded so that the listener, especially when playing through headphones, sits between Cave and O’Hagan.

The book draws candidly on Cave’s life, from his early childhood to the present day, his loves, his work ethic and his dramatic transformation in recent years. The audiobook features 16 musical codas and elements from the Carnage, Skeleton Tree and Ghosteen albums. It also includes an exclusive, additional 12-minute conversation between Cave and O’Hagan about the production of the recording.

Faith, Hope and Carnage offers ladders of hope and inspiration from a true creative visionary.

Not an interview book ,but a conversation, with depth and emotional connection with the always brilliant genius that is Mr Cave .

Simply Brilliant.

I’m so glad I stuck with it! It was an insight into death and how it impacts different people especially people who are creative. There is no right or wrong. Excellent.

Stick with it….

I can’t quite find the words to describe how this has been to experience. It’s a work of art and i feel enriched for having listened to their conversations

Beautiful, raw, honest

Having been a long time Nick fan this was a very welcome book. Especially for the latest phase of Nick's career from the mid last decade to date. His explanation of the last three LPs felt insightful and gives those records a much more needed perspective. Sean is the perfect interviewer. Gentle of tone but forensic in his detail, with no opportunity lost to probe, drill down and seek clarity where needed. By turns Nick is generous and revealing in his answers and self analysis, going deep on issues of loss and grief to spirituality and his concerns around Cancel Culture... And so quotable. If this were a hardcopy book whole passages and pages would be underlined. At the very very least this gets inside the mind of an artist at the height of his powers and the process that entails. It's pretty amazing stuff. Maybe all biography should be this bold, challenging and honest..

Essential...

I really enjoyed listening to this. Some great reflections on suffering and loss. You don’t need to be Nick Cave fan to enjoy.
