I enjoyed the previous book (Requiem Mass) by this author and was not disappointed by this story of the next murder case for DCI Fenwick, and DSs Cooper and Nightingale. As in the previous book I felt I was accompanying the police officers on a case as evidence was uncovered, suspects interviewed and the internal politics of the police force were acted out. It's a long book and, apart from an unrealistic section of psychological speculation, was an engrossing narrative. I needed to concentrate at the beginning of the book as an array of characters are introduced during a family gathering as a Will is read and I wasn't sure was whom, but as the story unfolded they began to crystallize in my mind's eye.
The narrator is good, which helps differentiate the players in this complex web of deceit.

If you like your crime to be gritty like, say, Simon Kernick, this is probably not for you. If, on the other hand, you're more a Midsomer Murders or Daziel & Pascoe fan, then this could be right up your street. It's a good story and well narrated but the premise is unrealistic and the plot has one or two holes. Having said that, it's an enjoyable listen (as are Elizabeth Corley's other books) and not too demanding. Perfect to chill out with!

The Narrator was good, I noticed some pronunciations a bit strange like "Canine" was pronounced as 'kah-nine', which was the first time I've ever heard the word spoken that way.
The Story was ok... I think it was missing something....
DCI Andrew Fenwick... the character seemed to let me down right at the end.... Like the waves gave his head a good bashing and made him go a bit 'dumb'.... disappointing end unless, there's another book after this one.....

Some parts I felt like they were either skipped or forgotten about, I was also confused with the characters somewhere near the middle, but eventually some parts unravelled for me.
I'm not sure IF I would read another book by this author, it depends on how her other books are rated or how good the sample sounds.

......the books have been recorded in the wrong order. I listened to “Grave Doubts” thinking it was the first book in the series, but it is evident from the storyline that this book should have been first.
I may look up the correct order before considering buying any further in the series.
Good storyline but I preferred the narrator of Grave Doubts.

Its a good story, plenty of intrigue, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I recommend it highly!
