About this listen

There’s an unwritten law that says what happens on a stag weekend stays on a stag weekend. Yet, sometimes, the events are too extraordinary not to share.

You are cordially invited to join the stag party of John Cove—the date: 14 April 1986.

The company you'll share is fun, and the spirits are unlimited. Be warned, though, it may cost an arm and a leg.

Fear Goggles is another excellent listen from Steve McElhenny . The story swings between amusing moments and bursts of bizarre horror, to keep you hooked. It’s definitely not for the weak-stomached. David Paterson’s narration fits the tone well, though the sound quality leaves room for improvement. I noticed the overall volume was on the lower side and the audio had a slightly tinny quality.
That said, the story itself more than carries the listen. Well recommended.
I was kindly given a copy of the book by the author and leave this honest review.

Steve McElhenny delivers another darkly bizarre tale combined with his signature movie style. The story unfurls like an alcoholic fever dream as the carnage plays out, every scene a homage to classic folk horror films and the attendant tropes there of. And of course there's McElhenny's characteristic humour throughout the narrative for those who like a little bit of comedy thrown in with their horror 😉

The sound quality of David Patterson's narration starts off a little tinny but seems to improve over time (or I got accustomed to it). Despite that his delivery is good and individual character voices makes it clear who is speaking.

Overall Fear Goggles covers all the bases for any McElhenny fans and a worth the listen as an introduction to folk not familiar with his work.
