About this listen

Following a string of disastrous house-sitting assignments, and with recent troubles in her personal life, Thea Osborne is understandably apprehensive about her latest commission: a wintry month in an isolated farmhouse with only an assortment of animals for company.

With the summer lushness of the Cotswolds turned icy grey, Thea spends her first few days exploring more of the surrounding area. She meets some of the mysterious local characters: the unappreciated au pair from Bulgaria and the elusive Kate from a neighbouring farm. But then the weather turns extreme, and so do events. When she stumbles across a man lying dead in a snow-filled field, Thea is once again at the heart of a mystery….

The atmosphere of bleak winter is the one thing that makes this story a wonderful and atmospheric read.

Yet another wonderful read

This was disappointing. Thea is turning out to be a bit drippy and the plot did not keep me hooked. I did nearly give up at one stage but was glad I made it to the end. Not sure I will read anymore in this series now.

Not terribly impressed

What would have made Fear in the Cotswolds better?

What a moaning wimp the main character is. Most of the book is taken up with 'Thea felt afraid', 'Thea was scared' and variations on this theme. If I ever met her I think I'd want to slap her.

What could Rebecca Tope have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Make the main character less of a pathetic wimp.

What about Caroline Lennon’s performance did you like?

Caroline is an excellent narrator but was struggling with this

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

It was better than nothing on a long boring journey. It actually sent me to sleep

Any additional comments?

Poor story - awful characters

Heroine? Pathetic moaner more like
