About this listen

Enrico Fermi asked the question, "If there are aliens, where are they?"

Six teenagers are taken on a journey to experience answers to Fermi's paradox, then they learned that their future has changed.

Fermi was one of the original designers of the Atomic Bomb during the Second World War. He asked the question, “Where is everybody?” referencing the fact that if the Universe is vast, and it has so many habitable planets, then why we haven’t seen evidence of intelligent life. If they’re out there, we should have seen some indication. Six teenagers from different parts of the world are taken on a journey by an omnipotent being name AllOne. They don’t know why, and they don’t know if it will end. Each experience alien lives, loves, and loss. Slowly they understand the reason for the journey. As the journey ends, AllOne tells them why they were chosen.

I enjoyed this book about six teenagers from different parts of the world, who were kidnapped by an alien being and sent together to different worlds and times to experience alien life. With each experience their understanding of life, its values and the need to be open to others and the conundrum whether it would be wise to contact an intelligent alien life form, if we became aware of it.

The six youngsters had very different personalities and were from very different social backgrounds and traditions, and while the story didn’t really allow these to be explored in depth it was evident that they all contributed to the group. The alien characters and their worlds were well thought out and the action and drama on each world was interesting and thought provoking.

One critique I have is that going by their thoughts and behaviour, the teens appeared to me to be a good bit younger than 16 years.

Overall this was a very entertaining, as well as thought provoking read.

Ray Jay Perrealt narrated the audio book himself. I find this is often an advantage since the author knows best how he or she wants the story to be told.

I received this book in audio book format free from the author and am leaving this review of my own volition.

Very entertaining, as well as thought provoking.

This audiobook surprised me with its unique blend of science fiction and philosophy. The teens' journey across alien worlds isn't just about answering Fermi's Paradox—it’s a deep dive into human emotion, purpose, and connection. The narration by the author adds authenticity and emotion. It’s Contact meets The Giver with a cosmic twist. Loved it!

This charming book uses Enrico Fermi's lost socks as a whimsical starting point for a surprisingly profound exploration of physics. It masterfully connects a mundane, everyday mystery to the grand principles of thermodynamics, quantum mechanics, and cosmology. The narrative is accessible and witty, guiding readers through complex ideas with clarity and humor. It’s not just about solving a small puzzle; it’s about learning to see the entire universe through a different, more curious lens. A delightful read that celebrates the inquisitive spirit of science, proving profound questions can hide in the most ordinary places.

I came for the sci-fi, but I stayed for the character growth and emotional resonance. Each of the six teens has a unique voice, and their experiences with alien civilizations made me reflect on what it means to be human. A bit slow in parts, but the ending ties it all together beautifully.

This charming book brilliantly uses Enrico Fermi’s missing socks as a metaphor for the elusive nature of scientific inquiry. It transforms a mundane domestic mystery into an insightful exploration of problem-solving, estimation, and the scientific method. Readers are guided through a series of clever, Fermi-like questions, learning to apply logical deduction to everyday puzzles. The whimsical premise delivers a profound lesson: the universe’s biggest answers often begin with small, curious questions. It’s an unexpectedly profound and accessible celebration of a questioning mind, making abstract scientific thinking both tangible and delightful.
