Summary

In the year 2021 a multinational fleet - experimenting with untested weapons technology - pitched through time, crash-landing in 1942. The world is thrown into chaos as Roosevelt, Hitler, Churchill, Tojo, and Stalin scramble to adapt to new, high-tech killing tools and 21st-century ways of war.

For "uptimers" like Britain's Prince Harry and the men and women who serve aboard the supercarrier USS Hillary Clinton, war is a constant struggle with their own downtime allies, who are mired in ignorance and bigotry.

As the Allies counter the Nazi assault and set off for the coast of France, Japan begins to buckle; soon every battle will be played out in a lethal dance of might and intelligence, unholy alliances and desperate gambles, and each clash will be fought with the ultimate weapon: knowledge from the future.

Thanks to the historical records, all sides know that two superpowers will emerge, while the losers will be pounded into submission. But time has shifted on its axis, so none know who will survive or how peace will take hold in a world turned upside down. These are the questions that John Birmingham brilliantly answers in his critically acclaimed adventure of war and imagination.

Where does Final Impact rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I have all three of the audio books in this series and got through the them in 1 week.Te way the story develops is well paced and you get a good feel for the story. The way the groups in the books play off against each other is well thought out and the action is exciting. The way the futuristic weapons are used and historical characters portrayed is believable.

Really interesting story - lots of funny cultural references for back in the day. Good mix of old and new ideas. Kept me wanting to find out what happened

Interesting concept

I was enjoying this and the premise of time shift but the idea of Prince Harry as a Colonel in the SAS?? Jeez the man’s a cabbage. Then the Beckham woman! My god I had difficulty getting past that. Why do that? Why include these people? Probably to guarantee at least some sales. Shame because it could have been good but it’s put me off even trying his other books. Oh and get a narrator that can do an authentic brit accent.

a brilliant mixture of historical facts supremely interwoven with futuristic fiction. the series is superbly read, with great characters whose story is very believeable.

I found this book a very good ending to the trilogy but it's left the ending of the murderer to our imagination and it would've been better to actually hear the authors ending.
