Summary

This has proven to be the most significant book ever written on stand-up comedy. It truly comes to life as an audiobook, especially with ‘before & after’ examples of punchlines. It explains groundbreaking methods and theories that give you the tools to fast-track your stand-up to the next level and will permanently change the way you look at writing and performing comedy.

Although Finding Your Comic Genius is an advanced book that was aimed at people who already do stand-up, thousands of new comedians all over the world have used the seventeen chapters on writing material to prepare for their first time onstage. It will also be beneficial to anyone who is planning on doing any form of public speaking. Ricky Gervais said of Adam Bloom’s comedy, “He's been one of my favourite stand-ups for about ten years. Bloom not only has meticulous, brilliant lines, but also an intense and fragile honesty”.

Jim Jefferies said of this book, "This is the only book you will ever need on stand-up comedy. No one on Earth knows more about stand-up comedy than Adam Bloom".

If you have an interest in doing standup or merely understanding the mechanics of the art form, this should be top of your list. I have already listened to this multiple times (while following along with the book in front of me to see the examples clearly.) The decision to have multiple narrators creates a sense of a team mission to write incredible jokes. I think it was a brilliant move. In summary, I really can’t recommend this book enough. It’s great for anyone with an interest in comedy and what’s ’under the hood’ when transforming material from something quite funny, into an expertly crafted piece of art. Next time Adam brings out a book, I’ll buy it the second it comes out. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

The best book on standup. Hands down.

I love this book so am delighted it is now available as an audiobook and that has been brought to life by such an excellent cast of voices, I am an auditory learner and this format makes it easy for me to revisit concepts and to think through incorperating them onto my writing. For a book so full of technique, this is wonderfully accessible. The audio format (and the personality of the readers) makes it even more so for me. This is invaluable for anyone interested in comedy
