About this listen

A secret mission. A divided crew. A revelation too dangerous to confront.

When Amanda Martin—ruthless head of Project Fire Sky—boards the USS Virginia, she brings orders that override the military, the government, and even the ship’s captain. Her mission? Classified. Her methods? Brutal.

Captain Reynolds is losing control of his ship. His crew is on edge. Tensions are rising.

Then a young serviceman, Mike Forrest, stumbles onto an unthinkable truth: civilians—American civilians—are being held prisoner aboard the Virginia. Among them is Louise Sumner, a brilliant scientist snatched from her life with no explanation. She’s determined to uncover why she was taken… and what secrets lie at the heart of this operation.

As loyalties fracture and Amanda’s private contractors enforce her will with lethal precision, Reynolds must choose: obey orders or protect his crew.

The countdown has begun. Nothing can stop it.

Fire Sky is a high-stakes military thriller that blends the moral tension of Crimson Tide with the mystery and scale of The Three-Body Problem.

What an incredibly rich and enjoyable experience. This was my very first Audible book, and I’ll admit I was initially a little wary of the nearly ten-hour runtime — but I couldn’t have been more wrong. The story was so immersive that I found myself listening at every opportunity, completely absorbed from start to finish. I’d happily sign up for another ten hours of this world if there’s ever a follow-up.

Fire Sky feels entirely its own thing; I’ve certainly never come across a story quite like it. It’s a slow burn, but in the best possible way — quietly compelling, layered, and full of intrigue. The central mystery is expertly sustained, constantly pulling you forward and making it impossible not to want just one more chapter. The cast of characters is excellent, each one feeling distinct and memorable.

And finally, the narration deserves special praise. The narrator delivers a truly first-class performance that elevates the story even further. An outstanding all-round listen, and a fantastic introduction to Audible.

Its obvious from the start that there was a great deal of reseacrh involved in this story.
There were plenty of well developed charactures to root for, and a few baddies to hope for their demise! There was a lot of technical and crew jargon which went a bit over my head but that didnt spoil the book for me, and I learned a few new terms!!
As ever I didnt want to guess the ending of the book in the first chapter. I did guess where it was heading pretty early on, but I did not see coming the unexpected twist at the end which was definatly worth waiting for!

Excellent
