About this listen

The Iron Prince will claim his crown.

Reidon Ward's first semester at the Galens Institute hasn't been without reward. In just over half a year he's gone from the weakest cadet at school to one of the strongest in his class, and there's no one left who would argue that his Device, Shido, isn't the most terrifying CAD they've ever laid eyes on. Still, Rei knows that his climb has barely begun, like he knows that the true fight is only just starting.

After all… The Sectionals tournament has arrived.

Rei, along with Aria, Viv, Catcher, and a couple unexpected squadmates, are about to face the first real battle of their careers. Squaring off with some of the best Users in the Astra System, they're going to have to put everything they have—as individuals and as a team—into their coming fights if they want to ultimately end up standing at the top. As ever, though, their journey is hardly bound to be a smooth one.

Especially not when Rei and Aria begin to suspect that Shido may be even more formidable than it appears, much less as the powerful entities who've already taken notice of the 'Iron Prince of Galens' begin to make their moves, some casting their hands in his favor, others very much against…

Really good books looking forward to hearing the next installment. Would love it if it moved forward slightly faster, the hints of larger things going on are thrilling and I want to see where it takes us. Overall a good listen, really liking Luke Daniela as a narrator.

Good and gripping book

amazing story that makes it very painful to have to wait however more years for the next one

The only problem I have with the performance is aria's accent is quite inconsistent

a wonderful continuation

I love this series, was waiting a few years for book 2 to come out to see how ward gets on . the scope for the series is massive, ward and gang are only 1/2way though their 1st year and there's soooo much more to be done . if you're even just thinking about getting this series you won't be disappointed, a really really great series.

please bring on book 3

Thank you Bryce. Been looking forward to this second book for a long while, and I was not disappointed. Best book I have listened to. Luke’s performance as always was amazing. Cannot wait to join Rei, Aria, Viv, Catchwick, Chancery and Logan again soon… PLEASE!!!!

Better than the first!

I enjoyed this book, but it didn't get its claws in me nearly as much as the previous, their were a few issues that i noticed throughout:
while he did a great job last time, the narrator tripped up a few times for this book, for example, he kept getting arias French accent wrong shifting it into Irish (i think?) rather than the French like accent he did last time.
the passing is pretty slow this time around, their are big gaps between interesting things where it really drags its feet, and the most interesting plot point that i could see was the Japanese getting involved but they are forgotten about for 80% of the book, only showing up at the beginning and the end.
one of the issues I had with the last book is that the info snippets at the biggening of each chapter sometimes stray into outright spoilers ruining some of the tension, this continues.
the whole 'my cad is special and has a secret' is now completely ridiculous. sure it was pretty crazy at first but at this point anyone with a brain could see that his growth speck is huge, so the knowledge of exactly how huge should only be a mild shock rather than continuing to completely floor everyone at this stage. the worst part about this was that rai and logan both told their big secrets back to back, and they act like they are similar in scale when the really aren't, rai explaining that his cad has S growth after logan crushing me emotionally is like getting hit with a wet fish after hearing that my dog has cancer and being told that i should feel just as emotional because of both.
over all i would definitely say that about half of this book could have been cut out as it feels like mostly connective tissue between this book and the next, assuming that that one will make more progress than this one.
all of that said, i don't hate this book, its fun to have in the back ground but yeah it has its issues, will still read the next one when it comes out.

still interesting but weaker than the previous
