From time to time Lawrence gets stuck in long reviews of what has happened, which makes the beginnings of some of the stories rather wooden. It gets more interesting when the plot moves to present tense with dialog. All in all not fantastic stories though.

I appreciate the narrator's attempt to characterise the different personae, but she has a way of drawling the last syllables of words which gives an oddly condescending tone. I had to increase the playback speed so as not to get so irritated by this.

Tough bundle

I am sorry I absolutely love audible but I really did not enjoy this narrator.

Dislike of the narrator

Rather an odd, very small selection from Lawrence's many great short stories. Pity we didn't have the whole of The Prussian Officer collection. And the reader sounds oddly ill suited to the text: nice enough voice but she sounds as if she expects to be reading an advertising brochure for holiday villas. No understanding of Lawrence's world and characters. Bizarrely, the Nottinghamshire miners all talk as if they come from Potter's Bar or Hendon!

Good to have Odour of Chrysanthemums to listen to.
