This has an interesting theme but is rather a slow story and I did not engage with the main character.I usually love Kingsolver's writing but sadly not this time.

And I mean Barbara Kingsolver, not the butterfly - although the butterfly is pretty majestic too. Kingsolver’s skill is sublime. She’s as good a writer as I’ve come across . . . one of those authors that makes you pause every now and then and just think “wow”.

The Majestic Monarch

I loved this book so much, that I will listen to it again. I found myself rooting for the families at the heart of the story, and the natural world that surrounds them. The book portrays the impact of climate change and our collective inability to adequately grapple with it without cynicism. This book and its protagonists will stay with me.

Deeply Moving

Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.

Believable characters, compelling storyline and very clever way of talking about the climate crisis in a relatable way.

Brilliant story read by the author
