Summary

An all-new stand-alone from New York Times best-selling author Julia Kent

It all started with the wrong Help Wanted ad. Of course it did.

I'm a professional fluffer. It's not what you think. I stage homes for a living. Real estate agents love me, and my work stands on its own merits.

Sigh. Get your mind out of the gutter. Go ahead. Laugh. I'll wait.

See? That's the problem. My career has used the term "fluffer" for decades. I didn't even know there was a more...lascivious definition of the term.

Until it was too late.

The ad for a "professional fluffer" on Craigslist seemed like divine intervention. My last unemployment check was in the bank. I was desperate. Rent was due. The ad said cash paid at the end of the day. The perfect job!

Staging homes means showing your best angle. The same principle applies in making a certain kind of movie. Turns out a "fluffer" doesn't arrange decorative pillows on a couch.

They arrange other soft, round-ish objects.

The job isn't hard. Er, I mean, it is - it's about being hard. Or, well...helping other people to be hard.

Oh, man....

And that's the other problem. A man. No, not one of the stars on the movie set. Will Lotham - my high school crush. The owner of the house where we're filming. Illegally. In a vacation rental.

By the time the cops show up, what I thought was just a great house staging gig turned into a nightmare involving pictures of me with an undressed star, Will rescuing me from an arrest, and a humiliating lesson in my own naivete.

My job turned out to be so much harder than I expected. But you know what's easier than I ever imagined?

Having all my dreams come true.

After reading the prequel, I really enjoyed learning how Mal and Will’s romance ended. The book kept the tone and mood I loved in Little miss perfect, with Mallory being a strangely compelling character–and a klutz, on top of that–and her relationship with Will growing into something sweet and sexy.

We had a glimpse in the prequel that maybe Mallory had missed some clues in high school, and that she may not have been as invisible to Will as she thought. Here, we learn the actual impact she had on him–especially their moment in Little miss perfect. I loved it.

This is a book about growing up, and how everyone has to choose between getting stuck in high school mode or actually moving on–and forward. High school is a trauma, equally for the awkward and the popular. It sets values and standards and expectations, that you either decide to keep, or throw away. Mallory has chosen to stay there. Even though she suffers from it, she chose to stay where she grew up and to maintain the image her schoolmates sent back to her.

Will has moved on. And moved over, before coming back. He has basically forgotten his high school years, except one thing, the meaningful moment he shared with Mallory. He finally makes it his job to show her that she’s much more than she thinks. I loved the dynamics between them, and the easy companionship they build even before they become a couple.

There’s mostly one thing that bothered me. I felt the high school reunion scene stalled a lot. There were a lot of revelations to be had, and it was crucial in the characters’ development, but it looked like it never moved forward until the very end. It was a weird back and forth and they both were stuck in limbo.

The narration was sublime, bringing up both the humor and the emotions. Definitely a book to listen to!

Julia Kent can do comedy! She firmly plants herself near the top of my go-to rom-com authors after reading this!

If you're in need of a laugh and a book filled with a seriously unfortunate set of events, this is for you.

This story was completely delightful! Erin Mallon does an exceptional job telling the story of Malory and Will. I inappropriately laughed multiple times when reading, to the point where my husband was giving me weird looks. The absurd situations that Malory finds herself in are cringeworthy but you can't stop listening. I had heard wonderful things about this book and they were all true. This is a must read when you are in the mood for a good laugh! This book was reviewed by a #audiobookobsessionreviewer

Absolutely loved this book. I found myself laughing out loud so much I had tears! What starts as a mistaken application for a job, turns into so much more when Mallory comes face to face with her lifelong crush Will. Is now her chance to make her dreams reality?...
Great narration too, really brings the characters to life!

Fun, flirty and fluffy...

Fluffy was a hilarious, entertaining romantic comedy that had me in stitches from beginning to end. I could not stop laughing and I could not put it down. After reading the prequel "Little Miss Perfect" I could not wait to see what was in store for us with this book and I was not disappointed. The main characters Mallory and Will had great chemistry together however it was their witty back and fort banter that really had me amused. Mallory's best friends provided additional hilarity to the story and all together they made this a fun, easy read.

I listened to the audible version of this novel. It was narrated by Erin Mallon who was a great choice for this story. She voiced the characters perfectly and brought the story to life with her timing and delivery. I loved her voice and enjoyed listening to her narration.

Fluffy was a refreshing second chance novel and I would highly recommend it to everyone looking for a fun light read.
