About this listen
I've always known my partner has a dark side, but I've just discovered he's pure evil.
I’ve fully committed to being a Keeper of the Bounds between the fae and human realms, but I have to admit, I’m struggling to trust my partner, Lucas. We really didn’t have the best start, not to mention he’s so secretive, and it doesn’t help that I’m unnerved by the attraction between us.
On top of that, the bounds are splitting, the cracks of dark oblivion growing by the day. We have to put a stop to their expansion right now, because the consequences would mean the end of, well… everything.
Thinking his family may be involved, Lucas heads to Grimmere, his fae homeland, to find out what’s going on. Does he want my help? Nope. I have strict instructions to stay home and look after things here, which only adds to my general distrust.
But when a reliable source informs me that Lucas’s life is in perilous danger, I have no choice but to head to Grimmere. What I find there leaves me reeling. I now know who and what my partner is, and it’s blacker than sin.
With flawed characters and strong emotional arcs, the Folkloric series weaves a beguiling hidden fae world with epic stakes and all the feels. The chosen one and the perfect hero were so traumatised by the goblins, they upped and left for another book.

This follows on nicely from "Folkloric Lure" with Camille settling into her training as a Keeper. After a fight with his brother, Elivorn, Lucas is called away to visit his family in Fae and tells her to stay at home, but when she gets a warning from Mushum that Lucas' life is in danger she knows she has to find away to help him, though when she gets to Grimmere where his family live she's not prepared for what she discovers.
Lucas hasn't been entirely truthful about who he is but he had been honest that uninvited guests don't last long. His solution is for them to pretend to be mates, though you get the feeling that he isn't entirely acting. But what are his family up to with the Bounds and, ignoring her attraction for him, can Camille trust Lucas?
I loved how we learn more about Lucas and his Drac family in this (the sibling rivalry is brilliant); as well as meeting new characters, learning about different Fae and watching characters and relationships grow. I also love how the tension between Lucas and Camille is growing, as well as the moments of humor (particularly the mix-up with the potions).
Another great story by Karenza, with a huge mix of fae, goblins, elfs, and other creatures; and not forgetting the Men of Bedeilhac.
I could not put down and enjoyed listening to it just as much, with Liz May Brice bringing all of the characters to life.
