Summary

In this pause-resisting, poignant saga of love, loss, control and miscommunication, one woman treads a tightrope between marital loyalty and powerful maternal instincts.

Three husbands have tested Phyllis' aspirations of marriage and motherhood to the full, and now she faces a dilemma. If she accepts a fourth marriage proposal, might the consequences rock the turbulent path she already treads alongside her four offspring? Her decision could change her future and family dynamics forever.

A wonderful story

Very good story - lovely for downtime after work, and Sundays. Enjoyed the ‘unfolding’ of Phyllis - from childhood through her undulating adulthood. I haven’t reached the end yet but am enjoying it.
But - for possibly the first time listening to an audible book (and I’ve listened to dozens) the narrator made this whole experience, for me. She has a seemingly natural emotion ….. conveyed amazingly well in every character. There is a (….I don’t know what it’s called!) strong breathiness which seems to enhance laughter, anger, fear, ebullience, etc etc, perfectly! I’ve not heard a voice like it ! I’ll look for her narration again 👏🏽

I simply LOVE Larner Wallace-Taylor’s ’s voice

A family saga through the ages set in the Manchester area.
A woman weaves her way through childhood witnessing a bullying father & spending her life questioning her relationships with all her family as they unfold in many unexpected ways.
The narrator’s tone suits the story.
A pick up and put down book rather than an absolutely gripping tale.

Family dynamics- repercussions of one bad parent
