My only criticism (hopefully no spoilers below, I'll try to be vague so only those who've read it will understand) is that ....
I've been in the situation of the man at the end, the physical aspects of those last scenes in my experience don't happen quite like that, that said I've only witnessed it once so I could be wrong, and most tv shows that try to cover It get it wrong too. It was beautiful though, and I'm very glad I read this book.
Not what I expected, a v good story

I love Dani Atkinson books and have listened to several back to back.
However, this one is a classic example of how a narrator can spoil the story. The voice is irritatingly flat, monotonous and completely without any inflection which often makes the sentences nonsensical and without any depth. I struggled to get through it to the end, tempted many times to give up and read it myself.
This is possibly why I lost the thread of the story a few times and had to keep rewinding it.
I think I got the gist of the plot but a lot of it didn’t make sense and I really felt there were a lot of unanswered questions. Without giving anything away, I can only assume that the first scenario was the real one.
Not my favourite Dani Atkins book.
