Actor Joe Pantoliano and novelist Jeffrey Eugenides on this edition of Fresh Air. Pantoliano has got a new series on CBS called The Handler. It will air Fridays at 10 PM, premiering September 26, 2003. Pantoliano plays an FBI agent. He is perhaps best known for his role as Ralph Cifaretto on the HBO series The Sopranos. He has also appeared in over 60 films, including Memento, The Matrix, and The Fugitive. His memoir is just out in paperback. It's called Who's Sorry Now: The True Story of a Stand-Up Guy.

Jeffrey Eugenides' novel Middlesex is about a contemporary hermaphrodite. It won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction this year, and it's now out in paperback. Eugenides is the author of the novel The Virgin Suicides which was made into a movie. His fiction has appeared in The New Yorker, The Paris Review, The Yale Review, and Best American Short Stories.
