About this listen

"You'll know them. They have the letter 'M' branded on them like cattle."—Henry Melvin

Since Yakima's been able to date, her detective father has reminded her of the type of men to steer clear of. At twenty-seven, she's done just that until one night of partying and a botched raid lead her into the house of mob boss Francisco Matisse.

Calm, cool, and collected are frequent words used to describe Francisco "Frisco" Matisse. His main focus is business, and everything else, including his relationship with his longtime girlfriend, Alyce Smalls, comes afterward. In a hostile takeover gone wrong, Frisco schemes his way into Yakima's life, proving to his adversaries that his reach is far. Despite her skepticism, Yakima gives Frisco a chance.

As their relationship intensifies, he realizes he's in too deep to pull himself out. In a twisted turn of events, his scheme backfires, putting everyone involved at deadly risk. What was meant to be strictly business turns into something deeper, faster than he expected. With Alyce in his ear, Yakima in his heart, and people trying to threaten his empire, his back is against the wall.

When Frisco's secrets are threatened to be unveiled before he can reveal them himself, he must decide where his love and loyalty lie. Will it be with the woman who's been in his life or the woman who has his heart?

This was actually a good story I just didn’t like Yakima’s narrator. I wish Trei voiced Yakima’s character and Katherine voiced Alyse’s character instead. As always Winston James done his thing😮‍💨

Good story, FMC narrator ruins it a little though :(

This book was pure chaos from start to finish—perfect if you’re here for the drama and unexpected curveballs. The MMC and FMC had undeniable chemistry and banter that kept me hooked. Honestly, I was teetering on the edge because one more twist and I might have put the book down—it was that chaotic, but in the best way.

As for Frisco (MMC), he did his ex dirty, no question. That said, she also did herself no favours; I couldn’t stop asking, ‘Why is she sticking around?’ Her self-delusion made it hard to root for her. All in all, this book kept me engaged and entertained, but be ready for a wild ride.

Chaos with a side of banter

I did not anticipate getting so engulfed in this story. The plot really grabs you and the situations had me screaming at my phone sometimes. The only thing I didn't really enjoy was the female narrator's voice change to the MMC. it kind of took away the appeal and masculinity Winston James brings to the character. otherwise it was a really good listen!

I felt like this was a good read to get you through whilst you wait for your credits.
The only downfall was Yakima’s character and narrator was so annoying! The narrator made Frisco sound so corny where Winston James made him sound the way you would think he sounded. Her character was written as such an annoying person, Trei should’ve been her narrator, she may have saved it.
Other than that it’s was a good read

Cute story with an annoying character and narrator

i really enjoyed listening to this but unfortunately i could not connect with Yakima's character the narrator made her even more annoying than she actually was. I was definitely team Alyce...even though she should have known what was coming. I liked the connection between the brothers and would live to hear their stories but don't think i will be listening as annoying narrator will put me off. Saying all that I would still recommend this book...the narrator was just not my cup of tea
