Summary

Experience Star Wars: A New Hope from a whole new point of view.

On May 25, 1977, the world was introduced to Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, C-3PO, R2-D2, Chewbacca, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Darth Vader, and a galaxy full of possibilities. In honor of the fortieth anniversary, more than forty contributors lend their vision to this retelling of Star Wars. Each of the forty short stories reimagines a moment from the original film, but through the eyes of a supporting character. From a Certain Point of View features contributions by bestselling authors, trendsetting artists, and treasured voices from theliterary history of Star Wars:

• Gary Whitta bridges the gap from Rogue One to A New Hope through the eyes of Captain Antilles.
• Aunt Beru finds her voice in an intimate character study by Meg Cabot.
• Nnedi Okorofor brings dignity and depth to a most unlikely character: the monster in the trash compactor.
• Pablo Hidalgo provides a chilling glimpse inside the mind of Grand Moff Tarkin.
• Pierce Brown chronicles Biggs Darklighter’s final flight during the Rebellion’s harrowing attack on the Death Star.
• Wil Wheaton spins a poignant tale of the rebels left behind on Yavin.

Plus thirty-four more hilarious, heartbreaking, and astonishing tales from:

most of the stories are just fun additional fillers for fans to enjoy, some however are pure emotional hardhitters, while my personal favourites are the ones simply written for comedic value. the book keeps it all well balanced with a decent pace and excellent performances.

take it all with a pinch of salt!

absolutely loved this book. one or two chapters were a drag but overall great to see the OT from a certain point of view. I cannot wait to read the other Certain point of view books.

I struggled to read the physical book, the audiobook is a lot more enjoyable. Puts a new spin on a new hope, really enjoyed this book, all the narrators and writers have done an awesome job. Was hoping for a few more kameos but can't have everything!

I just hope they do "From a certain point of view" for ESB and ROTJ

Throughly enjoyable, start to finish.

I love the idea of this but it's a really tough one to review. Took me a couple of attempts to get into it - some of the stories are enjoyable, others not so much, others still are so jarring against the Star Wars backdrop as to be off putting, then the next hits you with an emotional gut punch.
HOWEVER, the final Death Star battle chapters Re written and performed so well, with the big John Williams score in the background, that as a 40 year old man I was taken back to the excitement from first time I ever saw Star Wars. Utterly brilliant and for that I can forgive any issues earlier in the book.
Just heard they're releasing a version for Empire, and I can't wait.

Ups and downs of an anthology series

Some chapters (short stories) were brilliant, interesting and clever, whilst some felt very tangential and weak. If the book had 25% fewer chapters, removing the really poor ones then it would be vastly improved.
Great stories include Jawa Jott on Tatooine; Qui Gonn and Obi Wan; Obi Wans demise; Yoda on Degoba; Breha and Bail Organa on Alderaan; and the Whills ending.
There were a lot of chapters on the cantina on Tatooine and most of them terrible.
I would be really positive of the book but there are too many 'dud' chapters that overshadowed the largely enjoyable listen.
