About this listen

In the third book in Diane Moody's best-selling WWII trilogy, Dutch war bride Anya Versteeg McClain is struggling to adapt to her new life in America. Her husband Danny, a former B-17 pilot, is troubled by her rollercoaster moods, but vows to do whatever he can to make her happy. Little did he know that would mean letting her go again. When an unexpected telegram requires her return to Holland, she leaves with a conflicted heart. Danny can only hope and pray she'll come back to him. There in her homeland, Anya makes an astounding discovery that alters the course of her life.

From the Ashes of War concludes the compelling story of a family's journey from the heartache of war to the promise of hope and healing.

The first book in this series was good and looked forward to the second and third. Unfortunately the second book had a very long account of particular baseball game - fine if it’s something you’re interested in / know the rules etc but as a Brit it meant nothing to me except a pointless chapter and a half.

The third book was promising and could have been even better if the author had confidently explored / expanded on some of the experiences and subsequent challenges for the characters in the story line a little more. Missed potential.

It had too many recaps and ones of some length - got the feeling the publisher had requested X number of words for the novel and these were covered by recaps… when reading a series, in depth recaps or even recaps aren’t necessary … majority of people read trilogies / series in the correct order , otherwise you might as well read the first, middle and last page of each. Enjoyed but at same time disappointing.

Recaps…,why?
