Summary

Gateway opened on all the wealth of the Universe...and on reaches of unimaginable horror.

When prospector Bob Broadhead went out to Gateway on the Heechee spacecraft, he decided he would know which was the right mission to make him his fortune. Three missions later, now famous and permanently rich, Robinette Broadhead has to face what happened to him and what he is...in a journey into himself as perilous and even more horrifying than the nightmare trip through the interstellar void that he drove himself to take!

BONUS AUDIO: In an exclusive introduction, Hugo and Nebula Award-winning author Robert J. Sawyer explains why Gateway is one of science fiction's all-time greatest novels.

I thoroughly enjoyed this, and found myself listening to it whenever possible. Having reached the end, I’m now wishing it was twice as long! The narration seemed a perfect fit.

I have just finished listening to the most satisfying space traveller science fiction audiobook that I have encountered in a few years.
Pohl draws great characters in this novel and the narrator brings them to life which makes a welcome change from the 2 dimensional pulpy leads in most novels I encounter. I'm looking forward to the next in the series

...that the book was the only book to win both the Hugo and Nebula awards, I should have been forewarned.

If you like unlikable characters whining at an AI psychologist and prattling on about star signs, this is the book for you.

There is tiny bit of interesting sci-fi I there but it isn't worth the chore of completing the book.

if I get past the first 2 hrs, I tend to
listen to completion, but with just 2 hrs to go, I'm giving up.

I wasn't able to stop listening. For those who are interested, there's also a PC adventure game Legend published in 1992 based on this book -- a classic in itself.

Great story and expressively narrated

Intense terrifying and brilliant. Classic Sci fi at its best. I wish I'd read it before now. Loved it.
