After listening to his discussion of the relative merits of British and American Christmas movies, I've concluded the author and his publisher should be prosecuted under the terms of the Trade Descriptions Act for pretending this book is primarily about geography. Still, the thematic focus on identity, sovereignty, security, prosperity and mobility works well, though I wonder whether the many Brexit-related refrains will soon make it seem a bit dated (full marks for the "Boer exit" pun though). Overall this is an entertaining if rambling general history with many amusing asides but doesn't contain anything as truly original as his seminal Why the West Rules—For Now.
