Summary

He's a troubled young actor, Hollywood's newest heartthrob, struggling with fame as the star of the latest superhero franchise. Through scandal after scandal, addiction on top of addiction, a flurry of paparazzi hunt him as he fights to conquer his demons.

She's a single mother, assistant manager at a grocery store, existing in monotony with her five-year-old daughter. Every day when she goes to work, lurid tabloids surround her, the face of a notorious bad boy haunting her from their covers.

A man and a woman, living vastly different lives, but that wasn't always the case. Once, they were just a boy and a girl who bonded over comic books and fell in love unexpectedly.

When Kennedy Garfield met Jonathan Cunningham back in high school, she knew he had all the makings of a tragic hero. With stars in his eyes, and her heart on her sleeve, the pair ran away together to follow their dreams. But dreams, sometimes, turn into nightmares.

Now, years later, the only thing they share is a daughter - one who has no idea her father plays her favorite superhero. But Jonathan is desperate to make amends, and at the top of his list is the woman who gave up everything for him and the little girl he hasn't yet met.

Contains mature themes.

Flipping heck! A second chance romance with a punch to the heart. Such an emotional read.
JM is a new to me author and one I’m sure to read again. The narrators, Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell, two of my favourites, really brought Kennedy Garfield and Jonathan Cunningham to life, they were perfect. Such an emotional read as we bounce backwards and forwards in time beginning when Jonathan and Kennedy met in their school days, to their breakup, to their reconciliation, to their fight for a future together. Battling against the odds as Johnny tries to make it in Hollywood whilst Kennedy supports him in more ways than he could ever know. Five year old Maddie was the real star of the show, just perfect. It definitely brought a tear to my eye. Loved it.

This has long been a favourite book of mine & I’ve re read it a few times. I saw a tweet about Joe Arden narrating it & thought I should check it out. I can confirm that the audible version is superb. Joe Arden is perfect as Jonathan. Maxine Mitchell has now established herself as one of the best female narrators I have listened to. She portrays Kennedy and other characters brilliantly and she knocks it out of the ball park with Maddie’s character.
This novel is fantastic and it was a delight to hear the audible version.
