War in the desert has always carried with it a certain mythology. The Long Range Desert Group, often abbreviated to the LRDG, was not designed to fight battles in the traditional sense. Instead, it existed to observe, to gather intelligence, to move unseen, and when necessary, to strike with precision before disappearing back into the vast emptiness of the desert.
