More than 3,000 years have passed since the first events recorded in Dune. Only one link survives with those tumultuous times: the grotesque figure of Leto Atreides, son of the prophet Paul Muad'Dib, and now the virtually immortal God Emperor of Dune. He alone understands the future, and he knows with a terrible certainty that the evolution of his race is at an end unless he can breed new qualities into his species.

But to achieve his final victory, Leto Atreides must also bring about his own downfall.

The multiple voices ruins this book. Using a different reader for the quotes is a good idea, but when a chapter suddenly is in a different voice with different interpretations of the cahracters, the magic is gone.

The story is fantastic.

Multiple readers positively ruins the immersion.

A really enjoyable audio book, I usually listen on my journey to work and back, but I made an effort to listen to at home with this one. Simon Vance is the main narrator with the Dune series, and he is brilliant, easy most of the time to discern the different characters (not so with some narration), I cannot imagine the Dune series without him now. The story is set over 3000 years since Children of Dune, with Leto almost fully changed into a Worm, save his face and spindly appendages. He now controls Dune and has a monopoly on the Spice, which he hordes to control it's supply. He is regarded as being the terrible worm, but not much is violence is wreaked by him in the book, but there are tales told of him being vengeful. The book has a somewhat satisfying ending, setting up the story for more in the series, which I will be reading right away!

Superb narration, great story, listened every day.

Frank Herbert takes the reader on the fabled golden path as we discover what Leato becomes in the hopes of fulfilling the dreams of saving the universe. But things are not as golden as had been hoped for.

The golden path.
