About this listen

From USA Today best-selling author Rina Kent comes a new stand-alone dark college romance.

I’m out for revenge. After careful planning, I gave the man who messed with my family a taste of his own medicine. I thought it’d end there. It didn’t.

Landon King is a genius artist, a posh rich boy, and my worst nightmare. He’s decided that I’m the new addition to his chess game. Too bad for him, I’m no pawn.

If he hits, I hit back, twice as hard and with the same hostility. He says he’ll ruin me. Little does he know that ruination goes both ways.

This book can be listened to on its own, but for a better understanding of the world, you might want to start with God of Malice.

As someone who hasn't read any other RK books except for this series, with each book I really have no clue what to expect. But regardless, this series has me firmly locked in its clutches! I am always on the hook for what is going to happen next in the plot, but unfortunately, this book does not really progress the overarching plot of the series whatsoever. Instead, it focuses more on the development and progression of the Lan/Mia relationship, which is enjoyable but it is good to know going in that we aren't getting the same style of storytelling as we got with the first 3 books. Instead, we get loads of character development, especially for Landon who is probably the *MOST* unlikeable MMC in this series so far at the start but is very much improved by the end. And I also loved every single scene where Mia stood up for herself against Landon, as well as the other clowns in this world that she has to deal with (aka Jeremy, Kill, and Niko).

That being said, the duet narration for this book was off-the-charts amazing! If I could give it 10 stars I would! Shane & Mackenzie really went above and beyond in bringing Landon and Mia to life.

Plus we get so many awesome Niko/Bran crumbs I was kicking my feet at every single one!

Stellar Duet Narration!

This second generation of Elite and Mafia spawns are becoming way more unhinged than their parents, and that's something else for sure.

Landon was always portrayed as cold, soulless and incapable of any kind of emotion or empathy, so this book is plotted 100% around his discovery of "feelings" toward Mia, and how he could make it work.

Like the previous books, it has a vibe of Romeo and Juliet forbidden romance, with way more k1_n_ky talk and a HEA.

I actually loved how he tried to understand his obsession with her, while he also helped her to find her voice and freedom from her past trauma.

Mia was a mafia princess, that didn't trusted her own army of bad guys with the person responsible for her kidnapping, and in consequence of that, she mentally blocked herself from talking. (To be fair, I didn't liked much that revelation... But in the mind of a 8 years old child, maybe she really saw it as a big bad Boogieman and locked up).

I know that the animosity between the two groups will be present until the very end (even though I still don't understand why it started in the first place), but I think it's time to go down a notch or two, in the benefit of the plotting and to avoid the repetitive circumstances happening in all the books in this series.

This time I also enjoyed the appearance of their parents. Astrid & Levi and Rai & Kyle did not disappointed me at all.

Jeremy and Cecile are still my favorite couple, even though I hated almost everyone from the previous books in this one... Killian should've kept his hands to himself in respect of Glyn 😂.

I cannot wait for Nicolai and Brandon!

Narrated by Shane East and Mackenzie Cartwright. It was a great duet narration, just like with the other books in this series!

Landon is a narcissistic psychopath with a genius IQ who thinks no he knows he’s gods gift to the world , he’s a walking red flag so of course you’re gonna fall for him . Mia well I expected more from her after reading the blurb I expected she would be at Landon’s level and although I loved her I wanted more from her. The narration was perfection Shane East & Mackenzie Cartwright brought this book to life.

Shane & Makenzie are perfect as Mia & Landon! Makenzie gives Mia her voice & Shane totally makes Lan a bit more human;)

I’ve been waiting for Landon’s story. I mean I had to know who would be able to make him feel anything! Needless to say Mia brings out the beast (I mean the best😉) in him.

Can’t wait for Brandon & Nikolai🔥

Loved Shane & Makenzie 💕
