Summary

Being immortal isn't all it's cracked up to be. Life's hard for a Greek god in the 21st century: Nobody believes in you any more, even your own family doesn't respect you, and you're stuck in a dilapidated hovel in North London with too many siblings and not enough hot water.

But for Artemis (goddess of hunting, professional dog walker), Aphrodite (goddess of beauty, telephone sex operator) and Apollo (god of the sun, TV psychic) there's no way out....Until a meek cleaner and her would-be boyfriend come into their lives and turn the world literally upside down.

Critic reviews

"Witty and entertaining, Gods Behaving Badly is an auspicious debut that outrageously libels the classical pantheon." ( Financial Times)

I havn't actually listened to the audio version of this so i cannot comment on that aspect.
I have however read the book and i loved it! I thought it was brilliantly written and hilariously funny with a very witty storyline! It has got alot of sexual references so if your easily offended by that sort of thing then it probably isn't for you but overall a great read - or listen :D

Great Book :)

this listen kept me well entertained on my long morning commute. not overly deep in terms of thoughtful plot which can make a nice change when you don't want to fully concentrate on a story which required a lot of concentration to analyse the plot. this one is so simple on the surface that there is almost no depthness involved which I loved. I read the book itself a few years back and the narrator had such a pleasant voice when narrating and very funny when impersonating the characters it was very entertaining . I have recommended this book time and time again in the past and I will continue to do so but now also in audiobook form.

sinfully delightful

I am only part way through this book, but felt that it was enough to write a review.

From the short summary of the book it sounded great, witty, cheeky and bad. I felt the book could have been better. The narrator gives the Gods a sarcastic, superior, smug voice you would expect from any God. The book is in need of this and it is not a criticism. The love story is passable but the book on the whole leaves you flat.

Perhaps I will change my mind. Watch this space.

I read Gods Behaving Badly when it came out in 2008 and loved it.
I've just listened to it on audiobook and loved it just as much. The humour is brilliant. I laughed out loud so many times and was again absorbed by the brilliant plot and characters.
Glen McCready narrated it perfectly too – great comic timing and easily distinguishable voices.
I'm sad it's finished, but very happy to see that Marie Phillips has some other books, which I'll be reading next. Can you get those on audiobook too please?!

Brilliantly witty and fun

I like everything about this. The little asides adding detail are hilarious. His voicing and timing are brilliant.

The idea it revolves around is interesting because it applies to humans too…

The written book contains some sentences this doesn’t I think, because you’re clear early on that the gods aren’t related to each other in the sense that animals are.

I’ll read it and listen to it again- I treat myself to revisit these squabbling godlets every few years- that’s how good a book it is! I wish there was a sequel such as the hinted at new plan for Apollo..

Funniest book ever, brilliantly read!
