Summary

The knight charging to her rescue is the last person in the world she wants to see. Now she owes him, and he’s ready to collect.

When I spot Serena Lambert in danger, I don’t think twice—I jump in to help. It’s only after that I realize what I’ve done: I’ve played the knight in shining armor for the woman who probably hates my guts more than anyone else on the planet. Serena, the Blizzard’s PR director and the bane of my existence, looks just as shocked as I feel. Guess she thought she was finally rid of me. But bad pennies? We always turn up.

Being an NHL goalie has its perks, and trust me, I’ve taken full advantage of every single one. But when I end up becoming the league’s most infamous netminder, all those perks disappear, along with my spot on the roster. I want back in, and for that, I need Serena’s PR magic. Sure, she’s prickly as hell, but I can deal with that. She’s already had to clean up my tabloid messes before. Plus, let’s be honest, she’s not exactly hard on the eyes.

Serena’s laser-focused on her career, trying to cement her place on the team while dealing with a backstabbing coworker. Helping me is the last thing she needs, but there’s something undeniable between us, something that goes beyond my usual charm. The more time I spend with her, the more I find myself wanting to dig deeper, to figure out what makes her tick.Yeah, we’re like oil and water. We might not mix, but maybe, just maybe, we can find a way to blend. And if we do, who knows? We might just score our happily-ever-after.

I have loved every book in the series that I've read/listened to but this one has to be my favorite. There were multiple plot points and everyone of them was interesting, well written and made this story dramatic in the best ways possible. From Jackson's parentage to the fraternization issue and the boss/assistant relationship...there was just so much going on and it was written so well. The flow of the story was fluid and I was totally engrossed in the plot. Serena and Wyatt were such great characters and had such strong opposites attract chemistry. I absolutely loved their interactions, in every facet of their relationship. It was a great book on so many levels.

As good as the story was, the audio elevated the experience for me. I am not a huge fan of an audiobook in third-person, but the duet style narration alleviated any issues I may have with it. These characters have such strong personalities and the narrators really brought them to life. Gideon Frost is one of my all time favorites and Addison Barnes voice was so lyrical and beautiful to listen to for long periods of time. Adding in a third narrator, Zachary Johnson, to voice the other male characters was a great addition and made it that much more pleasant to listen to.

Amazing series all around

Wyatt has been a major player for a while and has created a massive headache for the club and the PR department. So when Serena is in trouble and he rescues her, she’s not falling over herself to thank him. The way they slowly get to know each other and falling in love is wonderful and I love the character growth. I hope you will love it too. The narration is amazing and I highly recommend it.

I love the redemption

This is my first book in the Playmakers series so I was missing a little context but this was worked as a standalone in its own right and it didn't lessen my engagement. I really liked Wyatt's character arc as a reformed playboy who needs to grow up and has returned to his former team to try again. Gideon Frost balanced the Wyatt's vulnerability and arrogance really well and whilst keeping the character on the right side of being likable. Some of the dialogue delivery really cracked me up and I loved how Wyatt and Serena bonded over doing Lego. Addison Barnes also brought Serena to life; the scenes with Jackson were really cute and her career subplot was engaging out with Wyatt's storyline (I loathed Terri - she was vile).

I was waiting for the other shoe to drop after the incident in the club but on the whole this is relatively low angst. I did find the pacing a little rushed towards the end with Wyatt's mother and Serena's work problems being resolved in the last couple of chapters. After the build up with Terri, Travis and PK I was a little disappointed so much happened off page towards the end as those characters were awful and I would have loved a little on page dress down!

My interpretation of the star system;
3 stars - I enjoyed it; would read the author again
4 stars - I really liked it; I am invested and definitely want more from this author/series
5 stars - I loved it; I engaged with this book completely until I finished it and it is one I will re-read

Great Standalone

Amazing triple dual narration from Gideon Frost, Addison Barnes and Zachary Johnson. So brilliant.

Wyatt is or was a goalie for a hockey team. But because of past behaviours or shenanigans have made him untouchable.
Serena is a PR Rep for a hockey team that Wyatt wants to come back to. She takes her PR skills and job very seriously. Serena has a very low opinion of Wyatt. When Serena finds herself in a bit of trouble one night, the one person who came to her rescue, is Wyatt.
Wyatt is totally about himself and his inflated ego. Even with past he believes that everyone owes him. He is battling his way back to playing hockey. He knows he must keep a clean persona. It is Serena that Wyatt turns to find out why his old team hate him and to gets her to come to a family wedding. He has to fight and battle a truly horrible mother, Serena is fighting her own battles with a nasty assistant, a belittling boss, and the must nasty bosses son.
These two are brilliant and soooo sexy.

Great characters, plot, angst, drama and heat.

Loved this book.
