In the winter of 1924, Daisy Dalrymple Fletcher travels to a school friend's house to witness the estate's famous Guy Fawkes celebration. But she gets more than the quiet weekend at the quaint family manse that she was originally hoping for.

The home is the site of some severe family tension. The Viscount and head of the family is a strict and unyielding sort, insisting that everyone - especially his children - meet his own unreasonable expectations. On the evening of the Guy Fawkes celebration, the Viscount is found dead on the floor of his study, killed by his own hand. What's more, he apparently first killed a guest - a married woman visiting England from Australia - before turning the gun on himself.

Now it's up to Alec Fletcher, Daisy's husband and a DCI of Scotland Yard, to unravel the mystery and the long-held family secrets that led to this state of affairs. But a solution will require, perhaps, more than a little help from Daisy herself.

Enjoying this series. The narrators in general could do more homework and some of the expressions in reported speech feel a bit modern American English, but the stories are entertaining. Some of the accents are a bit odd too, but …Thanks

Very good

Lucy Rayner is by far the best performer of this series, but the occasional American mispronunciation creeps in. This can usually be ignored, but unfortunately in this book it was the surname of one if the main couples. Gooch - pronounces Goosh throughout. So annoying and very distracting. However, other than that a delightful listen as always.

Always a delight but 1 annoying mispronunciation

Thank god they got a better narrator for these books. Still mispronunciations . Difficult to believe that one of the main characters had their name mispronounced ……

These stories are light but hold your attention, are great for driving and for relaxing with.
They are not too demanding but with enough red herrings, possible outcomes and gentle critique at the class system to avoid being predictable.
The narrator is much better than the American but as if often the case, regional accents are a challenge - not enough to bother me though!
I choose to listen to the stories narrated by Lucy as she is far preferable to the other.

An entertaining story with familiar characters

I know people comment about the narrator making errors in pronunciation. And there’s a couple, true. BUT. I like her voice. She did a good job.

Gentle listening …. Good story.
