About this listen

Alex Bledsoe continues the adventures of freelance sword jockey Eddie LaCrosse in the thrilling He Drank, and Saw the Spider.

After he fails to save a stranger from being mauled to death by a bear, a young mercenary is saddled with the baby girl the man died to protect. He leaves her with a kindly shepherd family and goes on with his violent life.

Now, 16 years later, that young mercenary has grown up to become cynical sword jockey Eddie LaCrosse. When his vacation travels bring him back to that same part of the world, he can't resist trying to discover what has become of the mysterious infant.

He finds that the child, now a lovely young teenager named Isadora, is at the center of a complicated web of intrigue involving two feuding kings, a smitten prince, a powerful sorceress, an inhuman monster, and long-buried secrets too shocking to imagine. And once again she needs his help.

They say a spider in your cup will poison you but only if you see it. Eddie, helped by his smart, resourceful girlfriend Liz, must look through the dregs of the past to find the truth about the present - and risk what might happen if he, too, sees the spider.

like the previous four books this story is quite the delight to read and enjoy. I'll look forward to the next book when it comes out.

Same narrator as Ender's Game so that took a minute to adjust to, but really enjoyed these books.

Overall I enjoyed the whole thing. See title, it is a good series to read.

Good story, but need to accept the setup less than believable.

Honestly would recommend this book.
I only rate the story a three because one plot hole exists and I can’t in good faith ignore it.
Otherwise would be a four and is still an enjoyable read.

Enjoyable Read

I really appreciate the Narrator’s voice and performance, but he needs to get better individuality between the Characters. Oftentimes gets confusing who is actually ‘speaking’.
Bledsoe can weave a great and promising story LINE but it falls apart in the telling.
The lead male is a boorish Misogynist with infantile Anger Management Issues!
All women (even the teens) are described primarily in terms of sexual characteristics.
As I said, the Story Lines have good potential, but the telling makes them difficult to stick with.

Heavily Flawed but Excellent Narration
