About this listen

Winner of Rainbow Awards Best Historical Lesbian Romance, 2018-2019!
What if Robin Hood was real, only the heroic outlaw had been a woman?

Robyn lost everything: her home, her family, and her freedom. Branded as an outlaw by the Sheriff, she reinvents herself by joining Little John and his band in the guise of a boy, soon becoming their leader. But she misses the woman she loves, her best friend Marian.

Marian is distraught over the news concerning Robyn, and wishes to leave court for Nottingham to find her. Queen Eleanor sends her back as a spy to check up on Prince John, Sir Guy, and the greedy sheriff, while she tries to raise money for King Richard’s ransom. Soon Marian forges an alliance with Robyn to foil a traitorous plot, discovering her feelings run much deeper than friendship.

Can Robyn win Marian’s love, help the poor of Nottingham, save the king, and defeat the sheriff, or will his merciless sword strike her down?

I really enjoyed this novel. However I wish the love story was drawn out.

I really enjoyed “Heart of Sherwood”. This is a very straightforward telling of the Robin Hood legend, except Lane changes Robin Hood’s gender. This added greatly to the story and I loved the fact that Maid Marian became a strong character in her own right. Overall, this book is more historical/political than romance. I found all the historical facts fascinating, despite the sprinkling of anachronisms throughout. The writing is very good but overly detailed in places. I thought the romance between Robyn and Marian was a bit rushed but loved the LGBTQI representation. “Heart of Sherwood” is well worth a listen and I leaned a lot about the time off King Richard. Jennifer Lewis does a great job with the narration despite the odd pronunciation here and there!

A pleasing twist on a well know tale!

3.5 - an enjoyable sapphic retelling of Robinhood

I enjoyed this one - it was sweet and gratified my desire to see all my childhood fairytales in a queer light. The writing was solid and adhered well to the atmosphere and time period. Where the story fell short for me was in the insane excess of detail that served to detrimentally lengthen the entire story (which wasn't quite deep enough to merit such length).

Still, a fun and well-narrated listen that I would absolutely recommend for those who like their queer fairytale twists and HEAs ❤️

Not my usual genre but I am so glad I received a copy of this wonderful audiobook. It was an absorbing and entertaining listen from start to finish. I loved the characters and the gentle humour. I even loved the history lesson. Kept me hooked from start to finish and all beautifully narrated by Jennifer Lewis. The many voices she used for the characters is amazing. For those who like heat in their Sapphic fiction, please note that this story is entirely fade to black which also suited me perfectly.

A wonderful listen!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Robyn and her band full of compassion in opposition to the greed of the sheriff. Full of excellent details and interactions.

Cannot praise the narration enough. Every note hit, a pleasure to listen to.
