I found what plot there is dull, tired and well-worn. I didn't warm to either of the MCs nor find them in any way appealing or interesting. Though bare humanity says I should have felt something for the MFC's very troubled adolescence, I'm afraid I didn't.

The narration is painful and Ms Beharie's voice was by turns whiney and flat. I can't say I was significantly more impressed by Mr Catalano's choice of voice for Rome. Not having heard either voice actor narrate other novels, I hope this was simply either them having been faced with material which doesn't suit their style or simply poor directorial input.

I very rarely fail to finish an audiobook but this is one of the few which have fallen into this category in the last 12 months. I got exactly half way through before I gave it up as a bad job and deleted it from my devices and library. I won't be rushing to find other work by this author in the future nor to listen to audiobooks narrated by either of the voice actors. Though this was free from the Plus catalogue I truly wouldn't listen to it again if Audible paid ME to do so!

DNF - IMO this was painfully slow and dreary.
