About this listen

Haunted swamps, conniving conmen, and evil mirror universes—how is a guy supposed to get anything done around the house?

With the advent of the System, I might have been able to make my lifelong dream of becoming a mighty wizard and owning a mystical lair come true, but it hasn’t been easy. Between murderous cults, power-hunger adventurers, and now a missing cornerstone, I’ve had my work cut out for me.

Finding what was stolen will require me to delve deep into the secrets of my hometown, including the enigmatic Order of Stone. But with a spidery scholar, a talented blacksmith, and my ghostly familiar by my side, we’ll get to the bottom of the mystery. Heck, I might even find time to take my newest resident—an ice-cold dryad—out on a date.

Dire schemes are underway, threatening not just my lair but all of Ashling Grove. Only by unraveling the cursed history of my lair will I stand a chance of stopping them in time.

Do wizards who purchase condos have to put up with this kind of crap?

Another expanding mystery in the great Hearthomancy series. Brent continues to grow and expand, as do his girls. the world building is great and we get introduced to more parts of the town and the people in it.

Overall this is fantastic but it does have some slightly frustrating bits - Brent comes across as curmudgeonly to darn near everyone, and a bit of hermit. one minute he's a charming handyman the next he's a ruthless landlord being rude to his tenants. his power wanes as the plot demands to raise tensions (his main opponent has a class that should in theory be weaker even with the minute amounts of stolen mana but the plot demands a showdown)

aside from those small niggles, the plot is well paced, the characters deep and entertaining and the world expansive. I would thoroughly recommend.

another excellent entry
