An alliance between enemies. A weapon of untold power. And a bond that could rewrite fate.

Welcome to the kingdom of secrecy, betrayal and no mercy.

Ivy Pomeroy should be untouchable. Blessed with the power of illusion, she has many tricks up her sleeve, yet none are a match for the enchanted necklace that keeps her bound as an assassin to a ruthless king. Forced to play the role of obedient pet, she plots in secret to destroy him and break free of his hold.

When a mysteriously handsome Reaper from Death's Isle arrives hunting the same weapon Ivy needs, the enemies collide in a reluctant alliance brimming with tension. But as their search uncovers whispers of a dark power that threatens the entire kingdom, it becomes clear that nothing on the Isle of Illusion is what it seems.

Undeniable attraction tangles with deadly secrets, and Ivy's fight for freedom soon becomes a battle of survival. Through it all, she must never forget that though she may wear a collar, she is not the pet they tamed.

She is the beast they let inside.

And she will show no mercy.

Very reminiscent of the Plated Prisoner series and I'm not mad. Great world building but you really do have to pay attention because there's a lot of information and a lot of characters - major as well as minor.
The female narrator is out of this world, I never expect less from ZHB. The male narrator was a bit of in the MMC rendition, I thought, but not too off-putting.
Very much looking forward to book two!

I hope we don't have to wait long for the sequel. The book was a really entertaining representative of romantacy, always lovely when the ending doesn't go as I thought...

When we listen to a story unfold we start to notice paterns, but this one had me! I loved how it blew my mind after not being what I expected. The story is rich and I recommend for people that love fictions with gods and murder. The story is rich and attention grabbing, but be ware of the content advisory.

The plot twist

Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.

After the first gripping chapter everything went downhill and from there the book was only an info dumping about characters and their world. The world building was confusing because it was too much but also not specific. This book felt like a bunch of random plot and tropes smashed together. On top of all of that I really disliked the author’s writing style.
The narration was ok.
