About this listen

A decade ago, teacher Nathan Brookes saw four of his students walk up a hill and vanish. Only one returned, Olivia, starved, terrified, and with no memory of where she’d been. Questioned by the police but released for lack of evidence, Nathan spent the years trying to forget.

When a body is found in the same ancient woodland where they disappeared, it is first believed to be one of the missing children but is soon identified as a Bronze Age warrior, nothing more than an archaeological curiosity. Yet Nathan starts to have horrific visions of the students, alive but trapped. Then Olivia reappears, desperate that the warrior’s body be returned to the earth - for he is the only thing keeping a terrible evil at bay.

Finished and immediately started it again as was left with far too many questions. Second round turned it into 5 stars for me as had a clue what was going on 😂 and I loved it!

I really enjoyed this book. It’s very different and extremely unique, in such a way that I found refreshing. The Story it’s self is absolutely fantastic. I don’t want to give any spoilers, but as with all of James’ books; research, plot, characters are so impeccably detailed. You really do get to know his characters , this coupled with some frightening and disturbing horror makes this a tightly woven narrative story of exciting and unexpected events. The Voice acting of Matthew Loyd is brilliant, he really does bring this amazing story to life. The way he is able to differentiate between each character is awesome. There were parts where his talents were so strong that he made me jump. Mr Loyd Davis Al’s was very endearing when the story was almost sad, but he carried it off very well. I Highly Recommend this Audible Book and the Kindle book too.

This is a good listen. Not exactly horror, but an interesting mix of mystery and ancient legend. I felt it slightly lost its way in the final third, but I still enjoyed it. Good narration too

Entertaining and original

The narration was really hard to listen to. All the voices and exaggerations got increasingly embarrassing to the point that nothing was scary or even captivating.
Towards the end I cringed so hard I had a panic attack.

Please narrate a shout without actually shouting in a voice that resembles prolonged constipation more than anything else.

Intriguing story but…
