She can't resist her stalker's game—or her forbidden protector—in this USA Today–bestselling dark romance from the author of Pretty Monster.

Harper-Rayn thrives in the dark. That's why she's completing her residency in forensic pathology by working nights at Blackstone's morgue. But her preferred shift takes an unsettling turn when the bodies on her autopsy table begin revealing chilling, hidden messages meant only for her.

A masked stalker is trying to communicate with Harper . . . and he's not afraid to bloody his hands to get her attention. With actions that stretch beyond the bounds of sanity, he invites her to play along, and she can't deny just how intrigued she really is.

As his twisted game escalates, fear sends Harper into the arms of someone familiar: SWAT team leader Knight Slater. Sinfully attractive and more than off limits, he's the one man she shouldn't want, the one she's fought to resist . . . Her deliciously untamable step-uncle. But despite the illicit nature of their relationship, they develop a relentless need for each other that can no longer be ignored.

Caught between two men who want to claim her—one who's willing to do anything to protect her and the other who wants her dead or alive—the stakes become more dangerous than ever. Harper will have to decide: Is she ready to risk it all for her heart, or will she die trying?

Hide and Seek is a pitch-black stalker romance with a morally gray MMC and explicit scenes. It is intended for mature listeners. Narrated in duet style.

This started off really good, really enjoyed the ideas. Then things took a turn and at the time I hated it couldn’t get down with what was happening. Kept praying it was all some weird prank. Managed to stay on the crazy ride and ended up enjoying it in the sense of obviously this is supposed to make me feel this way, and applause to the author for succeeding.

Erm, what now?

This story isn’t about a woman being unaffected by trauma — it’s about dissociation and fear-based coping, which is the entire point of the book. The FMC’s reactions aren’t “washy”; they’re fragmented, adrenaline-driven, and intentionally uncomfortable.

The intimacy after violence isn’t presented as healthy or romantic healing. It’s a maladaptive response tied to fear, control, and emotional detachment — something the story clearly frames as dangerous rather than desirable
.
If you expect tidy grief and rational behaviour in a dark romance, this won’t work. If you understand the genre as an exploration of psychological damage and morally grey desire, this book delivers exactly that.

Uncomfortable by design

The characters were complex and interesting. But got bored with 2.5 hours to go as it really started to drag. Which is a shame.

Strong start but it did not last

I have almost 1000 audio books so when I write a review I mean it. I got this because Sebastian York was narrating. Mistake. Oh, spoiler alert, I’m going to give away part of the storyline.
So, the female character and backstory is “washy”. The first time her mother is involved she looses it. But the story is not strong enough to accept that kind of reaction as a listener straight away.
Spoiler, then there is the murder of a best friend and lover. But the next day she lets the killer have sex with her and she enjoys it….because she likes the fear! Eh, NO, that is a storyline I can’t and won’t get my head round, especially after the mutilated a friend and lover.
I like the job she does, I like the fact she has a large and varied sex life, far too often, even now the female characters are virgins!!!
So I have 5 hours left and I’m going to delete the book….because my sanity needs it.

It’s the fear, I like the fear!
