About this listen

After the crowning of Robert the Bruce, Sir James Douglas is sent to the Scottish borders to wreak havoc on those loyal to Edward of England. But his plans go wildly astray when Lady Ailish Maxwell’s brother is captured by her traitorous uncle. James has every intention of finding the lad but when Her Ladyship announces she’s joining the quest, he’s not about to let her go, no matter how beautiful her crystal eyes, or convincing her silver tongue.

And Ailish will not sit idle while her brother, the true heir to the Maxwell dynasty, is taken deeper into the enemy’s lair. After putting forth every ounce of reasoning she can muster, Sir James agrees to allow her to pose as his wife. But what she doesn’t count on is falling in love with the braw Highlander. And as they ride farther into enemy lands, they cannot ignore the intensity of the passion simmering between them - though it could very well destroy everything they have worked so hard to preserve.

Love anything to do with Robert the Bruce and any other real historical people that fought and served under him. And with a bit of romance.
Dave Gillies is a good narrator.
Now on to the next one of the series.

As ever Dave Gillies is master narrator of Amy's books. His representation of Robert the Bruce is especially good. This story is about Sir James Douglas who is one of my favourite characters in Scottish History. I would've liked it to be longer and more in-depth like Amy's books about William Wallace but it was a joy all the same. I love how many of Amy's books are based on real people+events and include the women - who are often shadows in the stories of medieval Scotland.

for some strange reason you just CANNOT get into the story? Well it has been that for me with this book and a few others that, I have started and gone back to, only to abandon it. So now doing a clean up of my Downloaded and In Progress Audio books and sadly this is one of them. 😐
