Summary

He is mine. I don't care how long it takes. I will have Malik Amin.

Sullivan Beauchamp: Some people call me a monster. A psychopath. As if I care what others think. So what if I relish in the mayhem of slaughter or enjoy feeling the life blink out of someone? I am who I am. It was Malik who eventually brought me to his home and trained me to hone my skills to work under him as an assassin. Malik Amin is my equal, and he will be mine in all ways as soon as I can chip away at his ridiculous and completely unnecessary self-loathing.

Malik Amin: Sully lost everything as a teenager on my order. When I found him covered in blood four years later, I should have put him down, knowing what he was. Instead, I took him in to train him. It works for us until he wants me more than as a mentor. I cannot allow it. But if Sully is anything, he is a master at persuasiveness and discovering my weaknesses.

While I VERY slightly preferred book 1 this is just as good! I just preferred the relationship between Dante and Luca very very slightly.. in saying that Sully is such a great character.
I found his foster life particularly hard to read (mainly because of Martin, I literally sobbed for him - no spoilers but one scene absolutely broke my heart it is so very sad 😔)

I do typically love an MMC with genuine psychopathy - Sully is one of the best I’ve read. He is so unintentionally funny and I just love how devious and crazy he is.
This book does have a different feel than book 1 and I appreciated that, but it is still very obviously set in the same world and felt very much like a continuation. I loved the couple of little snippets of Luca but do wish Dante and Sully had some interactions, I’d have loved to have seen it from Sully POV.
The spice is as crazy (and Hot) as Sully. I typically really, really hate age gap but for some reason it works here!
Off to start book 3 😬

Fantastic second book!

Reread as audiobook. Excellent narration, I particularly enjoyed Malik's accent.
Story - 4.5 stars. An intriguing story full of twists and turns. I really appreciated the writing of Sully. To write about an obsessed psychopath and the assassin who grew to love him in this way was really impressive. The way it was written over years worked well.

Excellent

His Bane was the first book I've read by Courtney Dixon and it’s still my favorite! The story of Malik and Sully is unlike anything I've read before.

Sullivan Beauchamp is born with a golden spoon in his mouth. Despite this, he doesn't have a nice childhood. His father is abusive and rarely allows Sully to see his younger siblings. Sully loves the twins and cherishes every minute he spends with them. He loses his entire family in an assassination attempt.

Malik Amin feels responsible for all the bad things that have happened in Sully's life. He struggles with his feelings for Sully. It takes him a long time to give in to them. I just wish Malik was able to experience Sully's inner thoughts and feelings.

I have fallen deeply in love with Sully. To me, he is one of the most lovable psychopaths I have ever read about. His black humor always made me laugh and that made the story a little easier to read.

It is recommended to read the TWs. This is not a cosy love story, but a tale of sorrow, abuse, grief, torture, and death. Although I hardly have any triggers, it was sometimes very difficult for me to read it. But it was so worth it!

Harley Chase did a very good job with this audiobook.  Hearing Malik talk about his past was even more difficult than reading about it. It nearly crushed me.

So deliciously dark 🖤
