Summary

In Historic Doubts of the Life and Reign of King Richard III, Walpole defends Richard III against the common belief that he murdered the Princes in the Tower, and many of the other crimes laid at his door by the Tudor dynasty which followed Richard’s defeat at the Battle of Bosworth in 1485. In this he has been followed by a number of other writers, including Josephine Tey in her classic 1951 mystery novel The Daughter of Time.

First comprehensive history favoring the theory that Richard III was not the murderous figure depicted by Tudor propaganda and Shakespeare's poetic fiction. It is surprisingly well written and researched and not at all dated even after more than 250 years and with the new discovery of Richard's body bringing new facts to life.
For the non British, Horatio Walpole, 4th Earl of Oxford, was an English writer, art historian, man of letters, antiquarian, and Whig politician and this book was first published in 1768.

What's an absolute find. Part way through I checked when it was written and was stunned to discover it was in the 1700s. Coherent arguments, logically explained, proving there is more than reasonable Doubt in the accusations against Richard III and that his name and legacy have been unfairly tarnished by the victors.
