About this listen

From the best-selling author of The Stone Man comes another tale of the unusual....

Tom's entire world is about to come to a very definite end.

In a day that starts with amnesia, mysterious old men, and a scrawled, barely-legible note that says only "DON'T TRUST HIM", follow Tom as he tries to piece together not only his memories of the day before, but the answer to the question... what happens when you never let go of the ones you love?

I really wanted this story to be longer. Luke often doesn't fully explain things in his books, he usually gets a nice balance between explaining enough so it makes sense/isn't frustrating and leaving enough the the imagination to make you wonder about things. In this book there is not quite enough explained for me, I wanted to know more about the 'incident I won't mention so I don't spoil the story' and how other 'attempts' had turned out as well as a bit more of the back story. I was listening to this while pottering about so I may need to listen to it again but I got a bit confused with the order of some of the things that happened, which I guess is always going to be difficult with this type of story! I still really enjoyed it and would recommend it. Another one that makes you think lots!

Interesting take on a classic sci-fi theme

allowing us a glimpse into his mind and its always a interesting thing. I really enjoy Lukes books and haven't found one that I havent enjoyed. its really nice to hear the author reading the book with all the pauses and examples of how it was said with tone etc is really nice as well.

I am often hesitant with short stories - a great idea but little else to carry it. However, somehow this felt like a full and rich novel with the pace and timing perfectly suiting format. I really enjoyed that the book is narrated by the author who has a talent for this sort of thing and uniquely knows how each of the characters should sound. Like all of Luke's book that I have read it is compelling and very difficult to put down. A classic sci-fi theme with a modern reinterpretation. A delightful and sobering read.
