Summary

Are you for real?

From the outside, it looks like model and influencer Mason Nash has it all—beauty, fame, and fortune. With his star rapidly rising, and a big contract up for grabs, Mason’s on the verge of hitting the big time.

When an opportunity arises to co-host a gardening slot on daytime TV with his ex’s brother, Owen Hunter, Mason is definitely on-board. And he intends to use every trick in the book to make the show a hit—including agreeing to his ruthless producer’s demand to fake a ‘will-they/won’t-they’ romance with his co-host…

Owen Hunter is a gardener with a huge heart and both feet planted firmly on the well-tilled ground. He’s proud of the life he’s built and has absolutely no desire to be on TV—yet somehow he finds himself agreeing to do the show.

It’s definitely not because he’s interested in Mason Nash. The guy might be beautiful—and yeah, his spoiled brat routine presses all Owen’s buttons in the bedroom—but Owen has no interest in a short-term fling with a fame-hungry model.

As the two men get closer, though, Owen starts to believe there’s more to Mason than his beautiful appearance and carefully-curated online persona—that beneath the glitz and glamour is a sweet, sensitive man longing to be loved.

A man Owen might be falling for. A man who might even feel the same.

But in a world of media spin and half-truths, Owen is dangerously out of his depth. And when a ridiculous scandal explodes online, with Owen at its heart, it starts to look as though everything he thought was real is built on lies—including his budding romance with Mason…

I loved this so much it surprised me. I was drawn in my the combo of gardening (love it!) and social media (love-hate relationship) and nearly backed out when I read some reviews but went in anyway and found myself charmed from start to finish. Don't let the pretty pastel cover fool you, this is an emotional rollercoaster of a book that had me giggling happy, furiously angry and desperately upset at various points, and there's some serious explicit spice in it, including some bits that...let's just say I was really not expecting from such generally wholesome looking characters! If regular references to social media and hashtags aren't for you (as I've seen in lots of reviews) then no, don't read this, but I live very much in the world where that DOES exist and for me I really enjoyed it. I went through a proper journey with Mason and Owen and practically cheered at the end. I had it on audiobook and the narration by Simon Goldhill was great, it's so nice to hear a British accent in an audiobook and anyone who loves Tom Hiddleston will enjoy hearing a similar accent, even if a British voice making innuendos about tomatoes will always seem dirtier than an American voice saying the same thing.

Charming, emotional and spicy British MM romance

Another interesting story by Joanna Chambers and Sally Malcom. Mason and Owen are great characters to follow on their journey. Simon Goldhill did a super job with the narration.

Being a Brit, I LOVE when there’s a good quality gay romance set in the UK. They are few and far between.

Home Grown Talent didn’t disappoint.

I read the first book in this series when it came out. It was actually one of the first gay romances I ever read, so it has a special place in my heart. The fact that Lewis and Aaron appeared straight in at chapter one was a huge plus for me!

This is a bit of a fake relationship romance, but the story felt fresh and different to what I’ve read (listened to) before. I loved the setting as a gardening segment and the focus on influencing as well.

I loved the characters. Owen so sweet, and the portrayal of Mason’s social media influencing was very well done. Very realistic.

The narration was spot on. Very clear, and not too over dramatised. Sometime I cringe when the narrator is just a bit too much.

The only thing that threw me was that I didn’t pick up in the first book that Lewis was from (possibly) East London. In my head he had more of a suave accent, so it took a while for me to get my head around!! But the narrator did a great job of differentiating all the characters.

ARC kindly received from GRR. This review is my honest and voluntary opinion.

Brilliant British Rom-Com

I have raved already about these two authors and this incredible series, which I adore and can't wait to listen to again. Arthors who understand and perfectly convey the tropes of conventional romance beautifully and write characters just as beautifully, clearly giving them a lot of thought and attention.

This book was the first I listened to as I was unaware there was a series, and it appealed most to me story wise. And even though I still really like the book and the series, this one is the weakest installment. The exploration of the characters personal lives with Masons struggles with his dysfunctional family versus what he wants was portrayed so well, as well as Owens relationship with his brother and their mother being really complicated. However it feels like Owen and Mason are not as compatible as the other two couples, as well as don't fit into the art narrative as much or their strange friend group. I loved them, especially Mason and how he developed, but didn't find it as strong.

Still a four star story however, which is simply a truth to how good these books and series are. With an incredible narrator to match who has never not amazed in the books he narrates.

Great stuff

The main characters are believable and endearing, the villains reach such depths that I have to hope such unpleasant hypocrites are merely figments of imagination and don't exist in real life.

A fun romance
