About this listen

Finding that desecrated body was only the beginning....

For Ashley and her three friends, it was supposed to be an adventure-filled weekend. A chance to get away from the hustle-and-bustle of city life and experience the peaceful tranquility of nature.

But when they ventured into those woods, their trip turned into a horror far beyond what they could have ever imagined.

Because these four friends have wandered into the territory of the violent, grotesque Webb family. A group of psychopaths who have a taste for human meat. And they are hungry!

Ashley and her friends must face this evil head on, and, worse, discover the shocking secret behind the family's existence....

In the vein of The Evil Dead, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Wrong Turn - Horror in the Woods will leave you exhausted and drained. A brutal, violent tale that hurtles along at break-neck pace - one that horror fans should not miss!

I have to say that I loved this book! This was my first time experiencing the works of this author, but I found that the story was well written and paced. The narration was well executed, and I would highly recommend this to any horror fan.

Great modern horror

The best horror book I have read in a long time. The description of the savagery that is inflicted on the main characters had me grimacing, and my nose wrinkling, which I didn't realise I was doing until my son pointed it out. I was so completely drawn into the story, I felt as though I was actually there watching, but so very thankful I wasn't. Well done Mr Mountford, I look forward to reading and 'digesting' another book by this author.

AMAZING & CREEPY

More cannibal frolics as a pair of unlikeable couples going hiking through the woods to get to know each other better. It doesn't go well for them as they lurch from one unbelievably stupid decision to the next. In it's favour the book wastes no time getting to the, err, meat of the story and the action never lets up. Unfortunately it's all horribly clichéd and formulaic. The twists can be seen coming a mile off and the characters all seem to take forever to come to the most obvious realisations. The writing is also very predictable and I found myself completing the next few sentences before hearing them. I also didn't care for the narration which I found forced and mildly irritating. For the gore hounds and torture porn fans out there the book is fairly graphic with long descriptions of the suffering inflicted onto it's victims. It's gross rather than scary but will probably satisfy those who like that kind of thing. All in all it was an average 70's grind house style piece of bloody fluff. Entertaing enough for what it was but nothing special. If you're a fan of the genre you'll probably have a decent time with it. If you're new and curious I'd recommend checking out Off Season and Offspring by Jack Ketchum instead which are both better written, more disturbing and scarier too boot.
