About this listen
Al-Anon's basic book discusses the mutual-help program of recovery, including personal stories. A beginning approach to the Twelve Concepts of Service is included.
©1995, 2008 Al-Anon Family Group Headquarters, Inc. (P)2013 Al-Anon Family Group Headquarters, Inc.What really stands out is how relatable the stories are. You find yourself thinking, “That’s me” more than once, which is both comforting and eye-opening. The book gently explains Al-Anon principles in plain language, making complex emotions like guilt, anger, and helplessness feel normal—and manageable.
It’s especially strong in helping readers understand boundaries, detachment with love, and the importance of focusing on your own wellbeing rather than trying to control the uncontrollable (a lesson many of us learn the hard way). There’s a lot of quiet wisdom packed into these pages, the kind that sticks with you long after you’ve put the book down.
Whether you’re brand new to Al-Anon or have been around the programme for years, How Al-Anon Works feels like a steady hand on your shoulder saying, “You’re not alone—and you’re not doing this wrong.” A comforting, hopeful read that offers real perspective and practical peace.

Would you consider the audio edition of How Al-Anon Works for Families and Friends of Alcoholics to be better than the print version?
Botrh are good I think. Audiobook gives me a quick access to its content - I can absorb better listening to it - hard copy is good to read the things that impressed me the most. What was one of the most memorable moments of How Al-Anon Works for Families and Friends of Alcoholics?
Difficult to single out one most important thing. Maybe the one that of "detachment with" love - it's the most difficult for me. Until now I could detach with resentment and anger. Fellows from Al-Anon showed how to ask God to heal me in this respect. A long way to go - but "one day at a time".What about Anonymous members of Al-Anon Family Groups’s performance did you like?
Their honesty about their recovery and how the fellowship changed their lives. If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Courage to live in Freedom and Life in Abundance.Any additional comments?
How come I did not get this book earlier? Well, my recovery in God's hands.Could not stop listening to it
